Our Interests

Liverpool Football Club - John McGrann

I started supporting the 'Reds' in the mid 1960s and followed in my father's and grandfather's footsteps. We were in the minority in Bootle which traditionally is an area with a majority of Everton fans. Even today the majority of the family favour the 'Blues'.

In the early days I went the game with my Dad. I spent a lot of time on his shoulders! Later I was able to go alone in the boys pen. I remember many games when there were long queues to get in. Most fans paid cash and there were little comforts.

There were many great occasions but the most memorable was the first European Cup win in Rome in 1977.

Without doubt there were football disappointments but nothing compared to the tragedies of Hillsborough and Heysel.

My favourite players over the years were Kenny Dalglish, Kevin Keegan, Steve Heighway, Ray Kennedy, Alan Hansen and Marl Lawrenson.

The current team has lots of potential and I hope they can emulate the team of 2000/01 which won a treble of cups.
